Automotive suppliers are facing significant challenges due to proposed tariffs, with only 63% of motor vehicle parts imported from Mexico into the United States in 2024 complying with USMCA standards. This contrasts sharply with 92.1% compliance for motor vehicles. From Canada, 74.6% of motor vehicle parts and 96.9% of vehicles were imported tariff-free under USMCA in 2024. Compliance rates have declined since the USMCA replaced NAFTA in 2020, with duty-free vehicles from Mexico dropping from 99.7% in 2019 to 92.1% in 2024, and vehicle parts from 75% to 62.5%. For Canada, free trade-compliant motor vehicle parts decreased from 83.1% in 2019 to about 75% in 2024, and tariff-free vehicle imports slightly fell from 98.8% to about 97%. To meet USMCA standards, 75% of vehicle content must be sourced from the U.S., Canada, or Mexico, with additional requirements for core parts and materials. A survey of 139 suppliers showed 97% expressing concerns about financial distress due to tariffs, particularly affecting smaller suppliers.

Ford and GM supply chains were built with the USMCA in mind. High touch / high value parts are done with Mexico primarily and Canada including entire vehicles.

I know its hard to understand how Contracts, and Memorandums work. Which is why, when Donald recently broke this one, the US defense Industry found themselves in big trouble as no one wants to buy American any longer.
