Julie Bowen, the 55-year-old actress who played Virginia Venit in the original Happy Gilmore film, has shared some surprising statistics about the upcoming sequel. In an interview on Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside of You podcast, Bowen revealed that she initially thought she would be replaced by a younger actress in Happy Gilmore 2, citing her age and the typical Hollywood trend of replacing older actresses with younger ones.
However, Bowen was pleasantly surprised to learn that she would be reprising her role in the sequel. She noted that both she and Adam Sandler, who plays the titular character, will return for the film, along with original cast members Ben Stiller and Christopher McDonald. The follow-up also features several new stars and special guests, including Travis Kelce, Benny Safdie, Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley, Eric Andr, Eminem, and Sandler’s 16-year-old daughter, Sunny.
Bowen also shared that she has less screen time in Happy Gilmore 2 compared to the original film. However, Sandler has reassured her that she still plays an important role in the movie, telling her “You’re the heart of the movie.”
