In a groundbreaking clinical trial, an AI therapy bot named Therabot achieved significant results in treating mental health issues. The study, conducted by researchers at Dartmouth College’s Geisel School of Medicine, involved 210 participants with symptoms of depression, anxiety, or at risk for eating disorders. Participants using Therabot experienced a 51% reduction in depression symptoms, a 31% reduction in anxiety, and a 19% decrease in concerns about body image and weight among those at risk for eating disorders. These outcomes were achieved in about half the time typically required for human-provided therapy, with participants averaging 10 messages per day to the bot. The trial results, published on March 27 in the New England Journal of Medicine, suggest that Therabot’s performance is comparable to traditional psychotherapy.
