$5 Million Prize Pool Set to Smash Records at LoL World Championship 2025

The League of Legends (LoL) World Championship 2025 will feature a staggering $5 million prize pool. This announcement was made by Chris Greeley, the Global Head of LoL Esports, on March 16th. The prize pool for the 2025 event is more than double the $2.225 million offered in 2024. Additionally, teams could earn more through bonuses tied to merchandise sales. Last year’s championship set a viewership record with 6.94 million people watching the Grand Final. The 2025 tournament will take place in China from October to November, with a reduced number of team slots from 20 to 17. Before Worlds, fans can enjoy the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) in Vancouver, Canada, from June 27th to July 12th, where 10 teams will compete for a $2 million prize pool. The First Stand Tournament, which concluded recently, introduced the Fearless Draft format and offered a $1 million prize pool. This format will continue in future 2025 tournaments. Riot Games focuses on building a sustainable esports ecosystem rather than immediate profitability.

5/ The Prize Pool Is Where It Gets Juicy Every entry pumps up the pot. The more players, the fatter the payout. Top brackets split the loot—think bragging rights PLUS a crypto payday. Last year, a 12-seed run torched 90% of brackets. Will you crack the code this time?

the thing ive always had beef with this type of split is that its clearly to ride the hype of “winners takes $1m” but in practice “prize pool $1m” is effectively the same value marketing/hype-wise and you can just pay sensical splits lmao
