Nintendo has indefinitely delayed pre-orders for the Switch 2 in China. The company is assessing demand in this highly regulated market. Originally set for June 5, 2025, the launch in China may not align with the dates in Japan, Europe, and other regions. Sales of the original Nintendo Switch, released in China in 2019, have been sluggish due to government regulations limiting available games. The popularity of mobile games in China also influences consumer preference away from consoles. The Chinese gaming market was valued at 325.8 billion yuan ($44.4 billion) in 2024, according to Gamma Data. Challenges remain high for success in China, requiring improved consumer experiences and compliance with government policies. Tencent, the primary distributor for the Switch in China, declined to comment. Nintendo and Tencent also announced the closure of the Switch eShop in China on May 15, 2026.

In China, the scale of their theft is simply staggering. Well over $1 trillion in value, while the country is still considered “developing” by the WTO (not held to the same standards as Western countries), manipulates their currency, and corners commodities markets.
