15 Million Units in Just 9 Months: Nintendo’s Switch 2 Sales Forecast Revealed!

Nintendo anticipates the Switch 2 will sell 15 million units worldwide within its first nine months. The company’s fiscal report for the year ending March 31, 2025, also projects 45 million units of Switch 2 software sales over the same period. The original Switch, launched on March 3, 2017, sold 2.74 million units by the end of its launch month and 15.05 million units in the following fiscal year. It sold nearly 18 million units in its first year. The original Switch is on track to surpass the Nintendo DS’s record of 154.02 million units, needing fewer than 2 million more sales. It sold 10.8 million units in FY25, reaching a lifetime total of 152.12 million units. Nintendo expects another 4.5 million Switch sales in the current fiscal year. In terms of financial performance, Nintendo’s consolidated net sales dropped by 30.3% to 1.16 trillion yen ($8.03 billion), and profit fell by 43.2% to 278.8 billion yen ($1.9 billion). Hardware sales decreased by 31.2% to 10.8 million units, and software sales declined by 22.2% to 155.41 million units. Digital sales fell by 26.5% to 326 billion yen ($2.25 billion), and mobile and IP-related income decreased by 27% to 67.6 billion yen ($466.8 million). Nintendo forecasts full-year sales of 1.9 trillion yen ($13.1 billion) for FY26 with the Switch 2 launch.
