Ripple has announced a $1.25 billion acquisition of Hidden Road, a multi-asset prime brokerage firm. This deal, one of the largest in the digital asset industry, sees Hidden Road handling over $3 trillion in annual transactions across various markets. The firm serves more than 300 institutional clients. Ripple plans to inject new capital into Hidden Road to expand its operations, aiming to position it as the largest non-bank prime broker globally. As part of the deal, Hidden Road will utilize Ripple’s U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin, RLUSD, as collateral. This move makes RLUSD the first stablecoin to facilitate cross-margining between traditional and digital asset markets. Additionally, Hidden Road intends to shift its post-trade operations to the XRP Ledger to reduce costs and improve settlement processes. The acquisition is expected to close in the coming months, subject to regulatory approval. Ripple currently holds over 60 regulatory licenses worldwide.
