27 Points Off the Bench: The Game-Changing Performance in the NBA Finals

In a thrilling Game 3 of the NBA Finals, the Indiana Pacers secured a 116-107 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder, taking a 2-1 series lead. Bennedict Mathurin, coming off the bench, led the scoring with 27 points, marking the highest points total by a reserve in an NBA Finals game since Jason Terry in 2011. The Pacers’ bench outscored the Thunder’s 49-18, with T.J. McConnell contributing five steals and 10 points. Tyrese Haliburton added 22 points, 11 assists, and 9 rebounds, while Pascal Siakam scored 21 points. Historically, teams that win Game 3 after a 1-1 tie in the Finals win the series 80.5% of the time. The Pacers remain undefeated after losses in the 2025 postseason, now 5-0, and have not lost consecutive games since March 8 and 10. Mathurin, at 22 years old, joined an elite group of players scoring 25 or more points in the Finals at that age or younger.
