Spencer Pratt, Heidi Montag, and nearly two dozen others, including Spencer’s mother Janet Pratt, have filed a lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles and its Department of Water and Power (LADWP) after the Palisades wildfire destroyed their homes. The lawsuit, filed on January 21, alleges that the city’s mismanagement of the water supply system was a significant factor in the fire’s devastation. The suit claims that the LADWP and the city had a duty to maintain the water supply system properly, but instead, they operated it with the Santa Ynez Reservoir drained and unusable, a cost-saving measure. This reservoir, out of commission since February 2024, led to the failure of hydrants in Pacific Palisades when three tanks, each holding one million gallons of water, went dry within 12 hours. The lawsuit states that this failure was a substantial factor in causing the plaintiffs’ losses. The fire not only destroyed Spencer and Heidi’s home but also that of Spencer’s parents nearby.
