Celebrity culture often puts a spotlight on physical appearance, but what does this mean for our understanding of body image? According to the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), approximately 1 in 5 women experience body dysmorphic disorder, a mental health condition characterized by excessive preoccupation with perceived flaws. In recent years, celebrities like Dakota Johnson and Kate Hudson have been open about their own struggles with body image.
Johnson, 35, was recently spotted enjoying a vacation in Ibiza, Spain, showcasing her bikini body. The actress wore a white top featuring triangle cups finished with halter straps, paired with a low-waisted silky skirt adorned with blue and yellow florals. Hudson, 46, also made waves with her sizzling yellow bikini.
These celebrity appearances may seem trivial to some, but they can have a significant impact on the public’s perception of beauty standards. A study published in the Journal of Eating Disorders found that exposure to thin-ideal media (such as celebrity photos) increases body dissatisfaction and negative affect in women.

If you get to know me, you will know I’m obsessed with perfecting myself. People have told me I have body dysmorphia…but what’s so wrong with just wanting to look hot? Celebrities look the way they do because they invest in themselves. My money goes into bettering me.
