The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced the inaugural Olympic Esports Games, set to take place in Saudi Arabia in 2025. This decision follows the success of the Olympic Esports Week in Singapore in 2023. The IOC has been engaging with esports since 2018, and the new Games aim to uphold Olympic values while appealing to the young esports community. Saudi Arabia, with its rich esports history and Vision 2030 reforms, will host the event. The Kingdom has hosted over 1,700 elite players from 80 countries in the past two years, with esports events attracting nearly four million fans and 1.3 billion global views. About 67% of Saudis consider themselves gamers, with 100 professional players pursuing full-time careers. The IOC will establish a new structure for these Games, distinct from the traditional Olympic Games, focusing on game titles, gender equality, and youth engagement.
