46,000 Cybertrucks Recalled: A Statistical Deep Dive into Tesla’s Biggest Recall Yet

Tesla has initiated a recall of every Cybertruck sold due to a faulty exterior panel that could detach while driving. The recall affects vehicles manufactured from November 13, 2023, to February 27, 2025. Tesla estimates that over 46,000 vehicles may need repairs, though they believe only 1% are likely defective. The issue was first noted in January, with Tesla concluding a voluntary recall was necessary by March. Owners can identify the problem through cabin noise or visible panel detachment. Tesla will replace the adhesive with a more durable one and reinforce the panel’s attachment. Starting tomorrow, all new Cybertrucks will include this fix, and vehicles in Tesla’s possession will be retrofitted before delivery. Notifications to dealers begin immediately, with customer notices starting May 19. Owners can contact NHTSA’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov for more information.
