Ethereum Layer-2 Protocols Hit 29.64 Mgas/s: A New Record!

Ethereum’s layer-2 protocols are now processing transactions at an unprecedented rate. The cumulative transaction throughput has reached 29.64 million gas units per second (Mgas/s), the highest ever recorded. Coinbase’s BASE is leading this charge, contributing 67% of the total throughput. Gas, the fee for transactions, is a key metric in understanding the network’s capacity. Layer-2 solutions, built on top of blockchains like Ethereum, aim to increase transaction volume while reducing costs. This surge in throughput highlights the growing demand for layer-2 solutions, but there are concerns that this demand might soon outstrip the available capacity.
