50% of Stomach Cancer Cases Linked to Genetic Mutations: Influencer’s Shocking Diagnosis

A social media influencer, Sidney Raz, was diagnosed with stomach cancer following the tragic loss of his daughter in utero at 26 weeks due to holoprosencephaly. Genetic testing revealed a deletion in his daughter’s DNA, which was also found in Raz but not in his wife. This deletion has been associated with certain cancers, including stomach cancer. Raz, who showed no symptoms prior to his diagnosis, discovered his condition through an endoscopy. He credits his daughter’s DNA for saving his life by prompting the genetic testing. Raz advised viewers to undergo a full panel of CDH1 and CTNNA genetic tests, as these mutations are known to lead to diffuse gastric cancer. Currently in the exploratory phase, Raz is undergoing further tests to determine the cancer’s stage and whether he will need chemotherapy or a stomach removal, scheduled potentially for April 18.

Right-sided colon cancer is often linked to microsatellite instability (MSI-H) and BRAF mutations, commonly seen in hereditary conditions like Lynch syndrome. Left-sided colon cancer is more associated with chromosomal instability (CIN) and APC, KRAS, or TP53 mutations.
