90% of USAID Staff Left in Limbo: Blockchain to Revolutionize Aid Distribution

The Trump administration aims to rename the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to US International Humanitarian Assistance (IHA) and integrate it under the State Department’s control. A memo reveals plans to use blockchain technology in the agency’s procurement process. This technology will secure and trace all distributions, aiming to boost security, transparency, and traceability by 100%. The initiative seeks to foster innovation and efficiency, enabling more flexible and responsive programming. However, the memo lacks specifics on whether this involves cryptocurrency or merely tracking aid disbursement via blockchain. Following President Trump’s inauguration, USAID faced significant changes: its entire staff was placed on administrative leave, its workforce was reduced, and some payments to global partner organizations were halted. A federal judge issued a preliminary injunction against dismantling USAID, yet the administration persists in its efforts to drastically cut and fully integrate the agency into the State Department.
