50% of Devices “Accidentally” Destroyed in Scandal

In a shocking turn of events, a former Denver prosecutor, Yujin Choi, allegedly faked sexual misconduct allegations against a colleague. When investigators sought to examine Choi’s laptop and cell phone, both devices suffered “accidental” damage. Choi claimed she dropped her phone into a bathtub and later spilled water on her laptop, rendering both inoperable. Despite her attempts to retrieve data at an Apple Store, she was unsuccessful. A December 31, 2024, ruling from Colorado’s Office of the Presiding Disciplinary Judge found Choi’s story implausible, suggesting she intentionally destroyed the devices to cover up her fabrications. The ruling highlighted that if the devices were functional, evidence of Choi’s dishonest conduct, including the manipulation of text messages, would likely have been uncovered. This case underscores the difficulty of hiding digital evidence in today’s interconnected world.
