50 Meters High: The Stats Behind China’s Soaring eVTOL Industry

In a groundbreaking move, EHang, a Chinese company, became the world’s first to receive a commercial passenger license for its electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in March. This self-flying vehicle, equipped with 16 propellers, can ascend to a height of about 50 meters. EHang plans to initiate public flights in the cities of Guangzhou and Hefei soon. The company demonstrated the capabilities of its eVTOL by conducting a test flight that offered panoramic views of an industrial area in Guangzhou.

China emits more CO2 than the US, India, Russia, Japan, the UK, Mexico, Germany, and Canada combined, with 300–400 coal fired power plants built or under construction since 2020. Emission caps and carbon taxes are not about saving the planet. It’s about control.
