245% Tariffs Unrelated: 75% of Chinese Developers Retain Unity Access

As of April 7, 2025, Unity 6 is no longer accessible to developers in China, Hong Kong, and Macau. Despite this, 75% of these developers continue to have access to the Chinese version of Unity and Unity 2022 LTS. Unity emphasizes that this change is part of a long-term strategy, not a response to the 245% tariffs. The Chinese version of Unity, known as “Unity Engine,” is now the primary tool for developers in the region. It offers specialized solutions for small games, OpenHarmony, and HMI car systems, tailored to meet the unique needs of the Chinese market. Unity assures that projects developed with the Unity engine can still be released globally without issues. This strategic shift supports the company’s focus on stability and growth in the Chinese market.
