Pfizer halted the development of its daily weight loss pill, danuglipron, after one patient out of over 1,400 experienced a liver injury. The patient’s liver enzymes returned to normal quickly after discontinuing the drug. Despite this, the patient showed no liver-related symptoms or side effects. The decision followed a comprehensive review of clinical data and regulatory feedback. The trial involved rapidly increasing the dose of the pill. Although earlier studies met their goals and suggested potential efficacy and tolerability, the risk was deemed too high. The rate of elevated liver enzymes in danuglipron users aligns with other approved GLP-1 drugs. This setback is part of a series of challenges for Pfizer in the competitive GLP-1 market, projected to reach over $150 billion by the early 2030s, with oral GLP-1s potentially accounting for $50 billion. Despite this, Pfizer continues to explore other obesity treatments.

Weird that Pfizer scraps daily weight loss pill after liver injury in one patient but vaccine injury was okay. I get it, no government mandate to lose weight.
