Chipotle’s 13.1% Sales Surge: But What’s Next?

Chipotle Mexican Grill reported a 13.1% increase in net sales, reaching $2.85 billion. Same-store sales grew by 5.4%, slightly under the expected 5.7%. The company saw a 4% rise in transactions, continuing its trend of higher traffic. Despite this, shares fell over 4% after hours due to a weaker same-store sales forecast for 2025. The company anticipates low to mid single-digit comp growth for the year, compared to Wall Street’s 5.4% expectation. Factors like volatile sales, weather impacts, and potential tariffs on imports could raise costs by 0.6 percentage points. Chipotle opened 120 new restaurants in the quarter, with plans for 315 to 345 new locations in 2025, most featuring a “Chipotlane” for digital orders. The company’s stock has risen 17% over the past year.
