5-Year Sentence for Tax Data Leaker Now Under Review

Charles Edward Littlejohn, who leaked the tax records of President Trump and thousands of others, has been serving a five-year sentence since May. His case for clemency is now pending, with a formal request for commutation of his sentence recently filed. This development follows advocacy from liberal groups who argue that Littlejohn’s leaks served the public by exposing tax practices of the wealthy. The leaks, which occurred while Littlejohn worked as an IRS contractor, led to significant media coverage before and after the 2020 election. Despite the privacy breach, supporters claim the information was crucial for public awareness. The IRS has acknowledged the breach, informing affected individuals, and is dealing with legal repercussions, including a settled lawsuit from billionaire Kenneth Griffin. Littlejohn, who has raised nearly $60,000 for his legal defense, is appealing his sentence.
