Shocking Stat: 10,000 Jobs Cut at U.S. Health Department!

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is undergoing a significant restructuring, resulting in the elimination of 10,000 jobs. This includes 300 positions at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), which oversees health insurance programs for 160 million Americans. The CMS office of minority health, responsible for reducing health disparities and improving outcomes for minority populations, has been affected by these cuts. Additionally, the Office of Program Operations & Local Engagement, crucial for implementing Medicare and Medicaid programs, saw significant job reductions. Other impacted units include those managing grants and contracts, and the Medicare-Medicaid Coordination Office, which serves dually eligible individuals. Despite these cuts, CMS will retain its in-house teams for communication, human resources, and information technology, with the IT team remaining untouched due to the sensitivity of their data sets.
